Laptops have come a long way in power and function. Nowadays you can pick up a laptop that is just as powerful as a PC, sometimes even more. Not only that, but they’re coming in thinner packages, making them even more portable. And now, with 2-in-1 functions, laptops are getting even more portable by allowing you to turn them into a full fledged tablet. For example, you could have a powerful Windows tablet, and now with design innovations, you can fold it up so that it operates as a tablet. Depending on the power that you want or need, these can be a little on the pricey side, but luckily, there are decent options available that’ll cost you $500 or less.
Not sure what 2 in 1 laptop is right for you? If you follow along below, we’ll show you the best available options on the marker right now. Here are our top picks.
Acer Chromebook R11
First up, we have the Acer Chromebook R11. If you’re looking for the portability of a tablet, but want something similar to a full size laptop as well, you can’t go wrong with this Chrome OS-based 2 in 1 laptop. The highlight of this hardware is that, in its normal position, it’s a traditional, full size laptop, but if you need more portability, you can easily fold it out into tablet mode. You can even fold it into a stand for more comfortably watching movies and TV shows.
This laptop is also a favorite because of the battery life that’s offered in it. Being based off of Chrome OS, the Acer Chromebook R11 can last almost all day on a single charge.
ASUS Chromebook Flip
We’re big fans of the ASUS Chromebook Flip as well. It’s similar to what Acer is offering in the R11, but with a larger, improved display and better hardware. The ASUS Chromebook Flip is able to fly through any task you throw at it. And, with access to the Google Play Store now, you can download and use tons of extra apps available on the Android ecosystem. Similar to the R11, the Chromebook Flip also offers all day battery life so that you can leave the charger at home.
When you need to work, use the Chromebook Flip as a traditional laptop. When it’s time to play, fold it out into tablet mode for watching movies, TV shows, and playing games.
Dell Inspiron 11.6-inch
Chromebooks are phenomenal devices, primarily there for completing most Web-based tasks, and now even some native tasks with Google Play Store functionality. However, even with that support for Android apps, Chromebooks have trouble replacing the traditional Windows laptop. That’s why you need to check out the Dell Inspiron 11.6-inch laptop. This laptop is loaded with Windows 10 on it, and then you still have that great 2 in 1 functionality — use it in traditional laptop mode, and then when it’s time to play, flip it out into a tablet. The battery isn’t as good as the Chromebook options, as Windows 10 is a much heavier duty and resource intensive OS. You should still get a few hours out of a single charge, though.
ASUS Transformer Book T101HA
Not a fan of Dell? Then you might want to look at the Windows 10 offering that ASUS has with the Transformer Book T101HA. It’s packed with fast hardware, so you shouldn’t have trouble completing any task with the Transformer Book. It’s another 2 in 1 laptop, so it can be folded into that traditional mode as well as a tablet mode. Battery life is pretty average for a Windows 10 device, giving you a couple of hours off the charger before needing to be plugged in.
Lenovo IdeaPad 14
Last, but certainly not least, we have the Lenovo IdeaPad 2 in 1 laptop. It’s based on Windows 10, so you naturally won’t get as good battery life as you would out of a Chromebook, but you’ll have plenty of power for everything that you need out of a laptop — Excel tasks, 3D modelling, basic video editing, and more. The display sits at about 14-inches, so it is a little larger, but movies and TV shows will look great with its high definition resolution. Get one for yourself at the link below.
If you need a quality 2 in 1 laptop, any of these on this list will do. A Chromebook will be most optimal for Web-based tasks, but if you need something that can handle Windows applications, any of these Windows 10-based 2 in 1 laptops will do as well.
