7 Best Motherboards For Ryzen 5 3600X In 2020

The Ryzen 5 3600X is the unlocked or performance variant of the the Ryzen 5 3600. That said, you’ll want to make sure that you have a motherboard that can support the 3600X really well, particularly when it comes down to heat protection.

Since the Ryzen 5 3600X is “unlocked”, you can really do some crazy overclocking with it. So like we mentioned, you need a board that has great thermal support, but a board that can support the overclocking as well. You’re also pretty limited as to what you can get, because you need to make sure that you stay on the AM4 socket platform in order to even use the 3600X model.

So what’s out there for you as far as motherboards and this chipset go? Here are a handful of our favorites available today.

GIGABYTE AB350 Gaming 3

The GIGABYTE AB350 Gaming 3 is an excellent choice for the Ryzen 5 3600X. If you’re trying to create a high-end setup, this is one of the best — it provides plenty of overclocking ability, but also room for high-end video cards, memory, and everything else.

The AB350 is a capable AM4 motherboard for your Ryzen 5 3600X — there’s plenty of speed and performance here, and plenty of ports. The downside to a board like this is that it’s a toasty board, and there’s no way around that due to poor power and thermal support. That’s just something to keep in mind as you game and mess around with overclocking settings.

MSI X370 Pro Carbon

MSI’s X370 Pro Carbon is another excellent choice for the Ryzen 5 3600X. You spend a little bit more here than the AB350, but it doesn’t run nearly as hot — that’s ultimately a little more safety for your chipset, giving it more long-term support.

This is another capable motherboard that will offer you plenty of performance and features. One of the highlights of this motherboard is that GPU and PCIe SSD slots are reinforced so that you don’t accidentally break the slots when you hit them with a piece of hardware. Or, it’s a little sturdier for things like larger and heavier cards.

You’ve no doubt heard of GIGABYTE before. They’ve got their hands in all different areas of hardware products, but they do motherboards, really, really well. So, this is an excellent choice for the Ryzen 5 3600X.

You get dual-channel unbuffered memory, HDMI and DVI ports for a multi-display setup, and a couple of PCIe slots that can withstand some pretty high-end and large video cards.

And with high quality audio capacitors, this board is able to support some really good audio, not requiring you to outfit it and take up unneeded space with an audio card.

ASUS Prime X470

The Prime X470 is an excellent board that you can pick up for the Ryzen 5 3600X. With the AM4 socket type, you’ll have no trouble inserting the Ryzen 5 3600X in this board. And, if you ever want to make a change, you can pretty much use any AMD processor with the AM4 type.

It comes equipped with SafeSlot, which is an injection moulding process that upgrades your PCIe slots to be able to handle heavy duty video cards, such as Ti models. On top of that, you get 5-Way Optimization, which helps keep your processor cool even under an overclocking load.

Naturally, this one comes with a bunch of Aura Sync RGB features, which lets you trick out the inside of your case with some really neat lighting effects.

ASUS ROG Strix X470-F Gaming

One of the best choices on the market today for an unlocked processor like the Ryzen 5 3600X is ASUS Republic of Gamers line. Designed for hardware enthusiasts, the Republic of Gamers Strix X470 board won’t let you down. It is, at its core, a motherboard; however, ASUS has planted some excellent overclocking features inside of this motherboard.

The company has their own own 5-Way Optimization with Auto Tuning and proprietary Fan Xpert 4 technology to automatically tailor overclocking profiles to your unique profile — this gives you maximum overclocking out of your Ryzen 7 Performance CPU. Paired with Auto Tuning and Fan Xpert 4 technology, your machine stays cool even when you’re pushing the limits.

There’s an industry leading audio channel on here as well, so you don’t have to worry about a dedicated audio card either.

ASRock X370 Killer SLI

Don’t want to spend too much money, but looking for a great blend between performance, features, and thermal protection? Then this motherboard is for you. It’s affordable, and still performs extremely well with the Ryzen 5 3600X. You’ll get top performance out of your chipset here, even with the overclocking abilities.

There’s a plentiful IO, 12 USB 3.0 ports, and a whole four DDR4 RAM slots that support up to 64GB of memory. ASRock actually throws in support for a multi-GPU setup, giving you support for NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFire as well.

And coming in as our winner and top favorite, we have the AORUS AX370 Gaming motherboard. GIGABYTE makes this board for Intel’s LGA 1151 chipsets as well, but offers it for the Ryzen 5 3600X in the AM4 socket type as well. As you can imagine, GIGABYTE has packed this with features, even supporting all the way up to 64GB of RAM.

It’s perfect for an unlocked processor like the Ryzen 5 3600X — it features Smart Fan 5 technology and Hybrid Fan Headers, allowing the AORUS AX370 to dissipate heat better, keeping it far away from the motherboard. This is particularly neat to have when you’re using overclocking features. There’s a nice audio chip built inside the motherboard, and you’re running Gen3 PCi Express here.

As you can see, there are a lot of excellent motherboards for the Ryzen 5 3600X. The majority of these will come with excellent thermal support, except for, say, some of the more affordable models out there. Overall, you get some really well-rounded support here, though. We would say that the ASUS Republic of Gamers model is probably one of the best for your overclocking abilities.
