Free up RAM in Windows 10

Ideally, Windows 10 needs at least 2GB of RAM for the 64-bit version to run well. Opening applications in your computer will use up RAM and the more applications that you open the more RAM will be used. This means that you will need more than 2GB of RAM if you want to open several applications at the same time. The sweet spot for most modern computers is 8GB as it gives the system enough resources to play with. If you feel that your computer is running slowly over time even if you have enough RAM then here’s what you need to do to fix this.

Method 1: Restart your computer to free up RAM in Windows 10

  • Right click on the Start button.
  • Click on Task Manager.
  • Click on More details.
  • Click on the Startup tab.
  • Right click on any application you don’t want to start automatically then click on disable.

Your computer will have some applications running in the background. These use up RAM which is why you will need to choose which ones you would like to stop.

  • Click on the Start button.
  • Click on Settings.
  • Click on Privacy.
  • Click on Background apps found on the left pane.
  • Turn off the apps you don’t want running in the background.
