One of the most common problems of previous generation CRT monitors is that it is prone to burn-in. This happens when an image is shown for an extended period of time resulting in the image being burned into the screen. The screensaver is usually used to prevent this from happening. Although the LCD monitors that we use today do not suffer from this problem, screensavers are still used for aesthetic purposes. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will show you how to fix windows 10 screensaver not working.
Windows 10 Screensaver won’t start
If properly set up, your computer screensaver should automatically appear after a set amount of time has passed. If it doesn’t then here’s what you need to do.
Check screensaver settings
The first thing you should do is to make sure that the screensaver setting of the PC is properly set.
Time needed: 2 minutes.
Turn on screensaver
- Click on Start.
This is located on the lower left side of the screen.
- Click on Settings.
This will open the Settings window.
- Click on Personalization.
This allows you to change the background, lock screen, and colors.
- Click on Lock Screen.
This is found on the right pane.
- Click on Screen Saver Settings.
This link is found at the bottom of the right pane.
- Choose a Screen Saver.
You can do this from the drop down box.
- Adjust the Screen Saver settings.
These settings will depend on the screen saver being used.
- Set the number of minutes.
This is the length of inactivity before the screensaver will be activated.
- Click on Apply then OK.
This will save the changes that you made.
After performing the steps listed above the Windows 10 screensaver not working issue should now be fixed.
Update Windows 10 To Fix Screensaver Not Working
In case the problem still occurs then you should check if there are any software updates available for your computer.
- Click on Start. This is located on the lower left side of the screen.
- Click on Settings. This will open the Settings window.
- Click Update & Security. This is usually the last option on the Settings window.
- Click Check for Updates. Wait for the computer to download and install any updates found.
- Restart your computer.
Run the Power troubleshooter
Another effective troubleshooting step to consider is to run the power troubleshooter tool. This is a built-in tool in Windows 10 that can find and fix any power related issues.
- Click on Start. This is located on the lower left side of the screen.
- Click on Settings. This will open the Settings window.
- Click Update & Security. This is usually the last option on the Settings window.
- Click Troubleshoot. This can be found on the left pane.
- Click Power. This can be found on the right pane under the Find and fix other problems section.
- Click on Run the troubleshooter. Wait for the process to finish then follow the recommendations.
- Restart the computer.
