The answer to that question is yes, with a professional tool called Boot Camp Assistant. With Boot Camp Assistant, you can install windows 10 on your Intel-based Mac computer it its own partition. As an end-result, you will have a dual-boot system with your Mac OS on one partition and the other on Windows. If you want to learn how to get this done, then I suggest reading further.

  • Install all firmware updates on your Mac computer.
  • Full version of a Windows 10 installation DVD with product ID (upgrade version is not accepted)
  • Installation DVD of Mac OS.
  • A copy of Boot Camp with a compatible version for your Mac OS.
  • Use of Mac computers with Windows 10 support including MacBook Pro, MacBook, iMac, MacBook Air, Mac mini and Mac Pro

One you have met all the specified requirements, you may then proceed with the installation of Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp. But before you begin, be sure to back up all your data. After that, you may proceed with the following steps:

  • Open Finder on your Mac computer.
  • Navigate to Applications-> Utilities menu.
  • Double-click Boot Camp Assistant. Doing so will launch the Boot Camp application.
  • Click Continue on the initial introduction screen.
  • On the Create a Partition for Windows screen, set the partition size for the Windows installation. You can change the amount of space to dedicate to Windows 10, just click the small divider between Mac OS and Windows and then drag it to the left. Otherwise, you can click on the button to Divide Equally or Use 32 GB instead.

In order to proceed with the installation, you will need to allocate at least 16GB of hard drive space for Windows 10. This space will also need to accommodate any apps installed and saved documents. Thus, be sure to carefully estimate and/or allocate enough space depending on the number of apps you are planning to install.

  • Wait for the partition to be created and after that you should have a new BOOTCAMP drive icon on your desktop.
  • Proceed with Windows 10 installation on your Mac.
  • Insert your Windows 7 DVD and click the Start installation button.
  • At this point, your Mac will restart and boot to the Windows 10 DVD.
  • If prompted with a window asking which partition you want to install Windows on, select the partition labelled with BOOTCAMP.
  • Click Drive options (advanced) to continue.
  • Click Format, with the BOOTCAMP volume still selected.
  • When you see a notification saying that files will be lost. Click OK to continue.

Note: Please note that the new partition will not contain any files.

  • At this point, Windows 10 should start to install. Your system will then reboot during the installation. And you will have to remove the Windows 10 when this happens.

Your Mac will then automatically boot back into Windows 10 and the installation will continue with the Windows 10 DVD removed.

    • If prompted to select your language, keyboard layout, or other information, follow the onscreen instructions to proceed until you complete the Windows 10 installation on your Mac.
    • Once the installation is finished, insert your Mac OS DVD.

  • When prompted with a selection, click to choose RunSetup.exe.

The Boot Camp installer will now begin to install all the necessary drivers.

  • You will be notified after each driver gets installed successfully.
  • Once the driver installation is done, click Finish.
  • Boot Camp will then prompt you to reboot, remove your OS DVD from the drive. To proceed with the restart, click Yes.
  • When your Mac boots up, hold down the ALT key to select which OS would you want to boot into.

Mac will boot to the Mac OS by default. To boot into Windows 10, you’ll need to press the Windows button when Mac boots up.

You can use Boot Camp to install Windows 10 on supported Mac models that are running on OS X Yosemite or later version. If you don’t have the Windows 10 DVD installer, you can download a Windows 10 ISO file (64-bit version) from Microsoft. If you have secured the USB flash drive, then you can download an ISO from Microsoft and use the Windows installation key that came with your flash drive installer. Also ensure that you are using a USB 2 flash drive. Using a USB 3 flash drive won’t work.

Should you encounter any errors while attempting to install Windows 10 on your Mac computer, be sure to take note of the error codes or message prompts for they should serve as hints, telling you what went wrong and what to work on in order to fix it.

Among the most common errors to occur during Windows 10 installation on your Mac with Boot Camp would include error code 0xc000000f and the error prompt saying, “No images are available.”

The error code 0xc000000f usually indicates an issue with the Windows ISO image that you are using to install Windows 10 on your Mac.

  • In order to fix it, you will need to download a new ISO image from Microsoft and then try to install Windows 10 again using Boot Camp Assistant on your Mac computer.

Meanwhile, the error prompt saying “No images are available” when you install Windows 10 on your Mac using Boot Camp Assistant usually appears when you entered the license key while using a USB 3 flash drive to install the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

  • In order to fix it, you will need to transfer your Windows 10 Anniversary Update disk image file (ISO) to a USB 2 flash drive and try to re-install Windows 10 on your Mac.

Alternatively, you can try to use a Windows 10 ISO other than the Anniversary Update with a USB 3 flash drive.
