Installing a new driver software in Windows 10 is generally an easy process. Sometimes this can already be an automated procedure and is done when the operating system gets updates. There are also instances when you will have to install the updated driver software manually, which is still easy to do. There will however be times when certain issues will occur which is what we will tackle today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting process we will tackle the 0xC1900101 driver issue in windows 10 issue.
Fix the 0xC1900101 error on Windows 10
Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below it’s best to restart your computer first. This action refreshes the operating system and removes any corrupt temporary data that could be causing the problem.
There are several factors that can cause this particular problem ranging from a corrupted driver to interference from antivirus program. Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix this problem.
Update the corrupted drivers
If the problem occured after updating Windows 10 to the latest version then you will need to update any corrupted drivers.
To find corrupted drivers
- Go to Local Disk C:Windows.
- Scroll down to the Panther folder and open it.
- Open the Setuperr.log and Setupact.log to locate the problematic drivers. Keep in mind that you might have to take ownership over those files in order to access them.
- Uninstall the corrupted drivers.
You can also find the problematic drivers from the device manager
- Right click the Start button then click on Device Manager
- Expand the list of devices. The device causing error 0xC1900101 will likely appear with a yellow exclamation mark.
- Right-click the problematic driver > select Update Driver Software to install the latest updates. Click Uninstall to completely remove it.
Once the driver has been installed you should highlight the device again from the Device Manager then click Update Driver.
Restart your computer then check of the 0xC1900101 driver issue still occurs.
Unplug all peripherals
If you have any accessories connected to the USB port of your computer then you should disconnect these devices. Most people experiencing this problem claim that this solution works.
Try removing the RAM or Network Card
Some of the hardware components that can cause this problem are the RAM and network card. Try removing one RAM module from your computer then check if the issue still occurs. You should also try removing the network card.
Run an SFC scan
If the problem is caused by missing or corrupted system files then an SFC scan is effective in dealing with this problem.
- Type cmd in the search bar then right click on the Command Prompt app that appears and click on Run as administrator
- Type the sfc/ scannow in the command prompt then hit the enter key.
- Wait for the scan process to complete
- Restart the computer.
Check if the 0xC1900101 error still occurs.
Turn off the antivirus
There’s a possibility that the antivirus software you have installed in your computer is causing this problem. To eliminate this possibility you will need to turn this off.
Avast
- Right-click on the avast! icon in the system tray. Select avast! shields control and there will be options to disable avast for 10 minutes, 1 hour, until the computer is restarted or permanently.
Bitdefender
- Double click on the system icon for Bit Defender.
- When the Bit Defender window appears, move the mouse arrow to the left side and click >> Virus Shield.
- Move mouse arrow to the black check by Virus Shield is enabled and click.
- The black works will change to red, >> Virus Shield is disabled.
- Move mouse arrow to the top right corner and click the down arrows.
- Bit Defender is now inactive.
- To enable Bit Defender, do the same steps except click to enable.
Microsoft Security Essentials
- Right-click on the MSE icon in the system tray and choose Open.
- Click the Settings tab, then click Real Time Protection.
- Uncheck the box next to “Turn on real time protection”
- Click the “Save changes” button.
- Exit MSE when done.
ESET
- Double click on the system tray icon to open the main application window.
- Or via Start >> All Programs >> ESET >> ESET Smart Security.
- Click Setup >> Antivirus and antispyware >> Temporarily disable Antivirus and antispyware protection.
- When prompted to confirm temporarily disable select Yes.
- Note: Protection will be automatically started after a system reboot.
McAfee
- Navigate to the system tray on the bottom right hand corner and look for the McAfee icon.
- Right-click it -> chose “Exit”
- A popup will warn that protection will now be disabled. Click on “Yes” to disable the Antivirus guard.
Check if the 0xC1900101 Driver problem still occurs.
