How To Fix Windows 10 High CPU & Disk Usage By Broadcast DVR Server

Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below it’s best to restart your computer first. This action refreshes the operating system and remove any corrupt temporary data that could be causing the problem.

Broadcast DVR Server is part of the Windows 10 feature called Game DVR. This service runs in the background and allows gamers to take screenshots or record  a game they are currently playing. This feature will usually only use a considerable amount of computer resources when it is recording a game. If you are not using this feature and are experiencing lag when playing a game then there’s a possibility that this is what’s causing the problem.

The first thing  you will need to do in this case is to check if Game DVR is using a lot of system resources by opening the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc). If you find out that the Broadcast DVR server is using a lot of system resources then this could be because Game DVR is set to automatically record the gameplay in the background as soon as you start a game or it could also be that you mistakenly enabled the service from the game bar.

Disable Broadcast DVR server (bcastdvr.exe)

If you don’t use this service and are experiencing problems with it then it’s best to disable the Broadcast DVR server.

  • Click the Game bar tab and disable the toggle under Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar.
