Microsoft Excel is one of the most commonly used Office applications as it has a lot of useful features. Its advantage is maximized in large corporations as it  can be used to easily organize and analyze data. Although this is a solid performing software there are instances when certain issues can occur. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Microsoft Excel crashes while printing issue.

Fix Excel is not printing errors

Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below it’s best to restart your computer and router first. This action refreshes the operating system and remove any corrupt temporary data that could be causing the problem.

Check the printer selection

The first thing you will want to do in this case is to make sure that you have selected the correct printer settings. You will usually want to select the default printer setting.

  • Click the Printer button on Excel’s Print tab
  • Select the Default Printer from there before printing.
  • Users who aren’t sure what their default printers are can check by typing ‘printer’ in the Windows search bar.
  • Open the “Printers & scanners” app  which shows users what the default printer.

Try checking if the Excel crashes while printing issue still occurs.

Check if the printer is paused

If the printer is paused then you won’t be able to print an Excel document. Make sure that it is unpaused.

  • Select Devices in Settings, and then click Devices and Printers
  • Right-click the default printer and select See what’s printing
  • Click Printer and deselect the Pause Printing option
  • Deselect the Use Printer Offline option if that’s selected.

Check if Excel not  printing issue still occurs.

Update Microsoft Office

When you experience a crash this is usually caused by issues with the software which is why you should make sure that you have the latest software update installed.

  • Launch any of the Microsoft Office apps.
  • Click on File and click on Account.
  • Click on Update Option and select Enable updates if it is not already enabled.
  • click on Update Options and select Update Now.
  • Microsoft Office will check for any pending updates and download it. Go through the installation process.

Check if Excel print functionality is working.

Start Excel in Safe Mode

There’s a possibility that the problem is caused by an add-on installed in the Excel software. You should try starting Excel in Safe Mode in order to eliminate any interference from the add-ons.

  • Press and hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard and then click on the Excel icon.
  • Confirm Safe Mode action when prompted.
  • Try to print any document and check if it goes through.
  • If the print job is successful, you may have an add-on app causing issues with the Excel program.
  • Check your computer for recently installed apps or add-ons for Excel and Uninstall any suspicious app.

Reinstall the printer driver

Sometimes this problem can be caused by an outdated or corrupted printer driver which is why you should try to reinstall it.

  • In the search box on the taskbar, enter device manager, then select Device Manager.
  • Select the Print queues category to see names of printers, then right-click (or press and hold) the one you’d like to update.
  • Select Search Automatically for updated driver software.
  • Select Update Driver.
  • If Windows doesn’t find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer’s website and follow their instructions.

Check if Excel printing errors still occurs.
