Before doing the recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular problem it’s best to refresh the windows 10 operating system by restarting your computer. Surprisingly, this simple step can fix most of the issues that you might encounter with your computer.

There are several factors that can cause this particular problem ranging from a corrupted graphics card driver to an outdated software version. Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix this problem.

Rollback the graphics card driver

If this issue occurred right after a software update then this might be caused by bugs in the new graphics driver. You should try using the previous driver then check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then you will have to wait until another driver update is released that will fix this bug.

  • Type in “Device Manager”  in the search bar and select it from the list of available results by simply clicking the first one. You can also tap the Windows Key + R key combo in order to bring up the Run dialog box then type in “devmgmt.msc” in the dialog box and click OK in order to run it.
  • Expand the Display adapters section, right click on your graphics card and choose the Uninstall Device
  • Confirm any dialogues or prompts which may ask you to confirm the uninstallation of the current graphics device driver and wait for the process to complete.
  • Look for your graphics card driver here https://www.amd.com/en/support , select the required information about the card and your operating system and click on Search.
  • A list of all available drivers should appear. Make sure you scroll down until you reach the required entry, click on its name and the Download button afterward. Save it to your computer, open it, and follow the instructions on-screen in order to install it.

Edit the AMD registry setting

If the driver version and the AMD Radeon Setting version do not match then there’s a possibility that this problem will occur. To fix this you will need to make some changes in the registry.

  • Open the Registry Editor window by typing “regedit” in the search bar
  • Go to the following key in your registry by navigating at the left pane: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AMD\CN
  • Click on this key and try to locate an entry named DriverVersion. Right-click on it, and choose the Modify option from the context menu.
  • In the Edit window, under the Value data section change the value to 0 and apply the changes you have made. Confirm any security dialogs which may appear during this process.
  • Kill all AMD-related processes using Task Manager. Use the Ctrl + Shift + Esc key combination by pressing the keys at the same time to open the Task Manager utility.
  • Click on More details at the bottom left part of the window in order to expand Task Manager and search for any AMD-related processes such as its main executable and others. They should be located right under Background processes. Select them one by one and choose the End task option from the lower right part of the window.
  • Relaunch AMD Radeon Settings 

Check if the AMD Radeon Settings won’t open issue still occurs.

Install the latest Windows Updates

Open Start Menu and click on Settings > Update & Security settings > Windows Update. , Press on the Check for updates button. If any updates are available then you should download and install then. If Windows Update says that your PC is up to date, it means that you have all the updates that are currently available for your system.
