How To Fix Avast Keeps Turning Off By Itself Issue

Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below it’s best to restart your computer first. This action refreshes the operating system and remove any corrupt temporary data that could be causing the problem.

There are several factors that can cause this particular problem ranging from an outdated software version to a corrupted software. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix this problem.

Make sure the Avast software is updated

The first thing you will need to do is to make sure that you have the latest version of Avast installed. Having the latest version ensures that it will work without any issues with the current Windows version that your computer is running on.

  • Open the Avast user interface by clicking its icon in the system tray or by locating it in your Start menu.
  • Go to the Update tab where you will find two buttons with the Update text on them. One of these buttons is related to the update of the virus definitions database and the other one is related to updating the program itself.
  • It’s best to update both the database and the program by clicking on both of these update buttons, being patient while Avast checks for updates and following the instructions on-screen in order to navigate through the install process.

Make sure aswbIDSAgent Service on Your Computer is running

The aswbIDSAgent  service also known as the Avast Identity Protection Service is a new proactive protection feature to keep users safe from new unknown malware.

  • Open the Run dialog box by clicking the Windows Key + R
  • Type “services.msc” without the quotation marks in the Run dialog box and click OK in order to open the services-related settings.
  • Locate the aswbIDSAgent Service, right-click on it and select Properties from the context menu which will appear.
  • If the service is stopped , you should leave it stopped. If it is running, click the Stop button and wait for the service to stop before proceeding with the next step.
  • Make sure that the option under the Startup type section in aswbIDSAgent Service’s Properties is set to Automatic before you click the Start button in order to start the service again.

If you get the error “Windows could not start the aswbIDSAgent Service on Local Computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service differs from the account specified for other services running in the same process” when you start the service then proceed with the following steps.

  • Open the Run dialog box by clicking the Windows Key + R
  • Type “services.msc” without the quotation marks in the Run dialog box and click OK in order to open the services-related settings.
  • Locate the aswbIDSAgent Service, right-click on it and select Properties from the context menu which will appear.
  • Navigate to the Log On tab and click on the Browse… button.
  • Under the “Enter the object name to select” box, type in your computer’s username, click on the Check Names and wait for the name to become authenticated.
  • Click OK when you are done and type in the administrator password in the Password box when you are prompted to do so.

Reinstall Avast

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should consider reinstalling Avast.

Repair Avast

  • Click the gear-looking icon in the lower left part of the Start menu in order to open the Settings app.
  • Click on Apps. You should immediately open a list of all installed applications and tools on your PC so wait for a while in order for it to load
  • Search for Avast in Control Panel or Settings and click on Modify. Follow any instructions which may appear in order to repair it.
  • Check to see if the same problem with Avast shield still appears.

Reinstall Avast

  • Download the latest version of the Avast installation from the official website.
  • Download the Avast Uninstall Utility from the official website.
  • Disconnect from the Internet after you have downloaded these file and boot into Safe Mode.

To boot to Safe Mode

  • Click Windows-button → On/Off.
  • Hold down the Shift key and click Restart.
  • Click the option Troubleshoot and then Advanced options.
  • Go to “Advanced options” and click Start-up Settings.
  • Under “Start-up Settings” click Restart.
  • Several boot options are displayed. The relevant options for booting in Safe Mode are the numbers 4,5 or 6. Select an option by pressing one of the numbers or function key F4, F5 or F6.
  • windows 10 is now starting in Safe Mode.
  • Run the Avast Uninstall Utility and browse for the folder where you have installed Avast. If you installed it in the default folder, you can leave it.
  • Click the remove option and restart your computer by booting into normal startup.

Install Avast

  • Download the Avast installation file from the official website.
  • Run the downloaded file and follow the steps to install Avast.

Check if the Avast keeps turning off by itself issue still occurs.
