Before doing the recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular problem it’s best to refresh the Windows 10 operating system by restarting your computer. Surprisingly, this simple step can fix most of the issues that you might encounter with your computer.

There are several factors that can cause this particular problem ranging from a network issue to interference from the antivirus software. Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix this problem.

Restart the modem router and your computer

The first thing you will need to do in this case is to refresh your internet connection to your ISP. To do this you will have to restart your equipment.

  • Turn off the computer
  • Turn off the modem/ router by unplugging it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least a minute
  • Turn on the modem/ router
  • Wait for at least a minute
  • Turn on the computer

Turn off the Firewall

There’s a possibility that the firewall is blocking Discord. To check if this is the culprit try to temporarily turn off the firewall.

  • Under Windows Defender Firewall, switch the setting to Off.

Alternatively you can let Discord pass through the Firewall

  • Select the Start  button > Settings  > Update & Security  > Windows Security and then Firewall & network protection.  Open Windows Security settings
  • Select Allow an app through firewall.
  • Select the app you want to allow through.
  • Select OK.

If you are using a third party Firewall software then you should try to uninstall this.

  • Press Windows key + R to open up a Run dialog box. Then, type “appwiz.cpl” and press Enter to open up Programs and Features.
  • Inside Programs and Features, scroll down to locate your 3rd party firewall, then right-click on it and choose Uninstall.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall it from your system.
  • Restart your computer.

Disable VPN

Are you using a VPN service? If you are then try to disable this to check if this is interfering with the functionality of Discord.

Check if Discord is blocked by the network

  • Press Windows key + R to open up a Run dialog box.
  • Type “control” and press Enter to open up Control Panel.
  • Inside the Control Panel, go to Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center. Then, click on the Connections hyperlink associated with your Private network connection.
  • Click on Properties.
  • In the Properties screen of your connection, go to the Networking tab, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on Properties again.
  • Move down to the DNS server settings and change it to Use the following DNS server addresses
  • Set the value of Preferred DNS server to 8 8 8 8 and the value of Alternate DNS server to 8 8 4 4. Click OK to save the changes.
  • Close all opened windows and reboot your computer.

Change the server voice region

If the problem only occurs when trying to communicate with a person from a specific country then this could be caused by differences in voice servers.   • Press Windows key + R to open up a Run dialog box. Then, type “cmd” and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open up an Elevated Command Prompt.
  • In the Elevated Command prompt, type ipconfig /release then press enter
  • Type ipconfig /flushdns then press enter
  • Type ipconfig /renew then press enter
