Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below it’s best to restart your computer first. This action refreshes the operating system and remove any corrupt temporary data that could be causing the problem.

There are several factors that can cause this particular problem ranging from a corrupt .NET Framework installation to interference from the antivirus software. Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix the problem.

Make sure you have the latest Version of NET Framework installed

One of the main causes of this problem is a corrupted or outdated .NET framework which is why the first thing you will need to do is to reinstall this component.

Uninstall the .NET Framework

  • Click on the Start button then Settings
  • Click on Apps
  • Uninstall everything that starts with “Microsoft .NET,” doing newest versions first.

Reinstall the .NET Framework

Check the file integrity

  • Press the Windows Key + R key combination to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type in “control.exe” and click OK in order to open it.
  • Click Uninstall a Program option and click Turn Windows features on or off. Make sure you locate the .NET Framework 4.x.x entry and make sure it’s enabled. ‘x.x’ marks the latest version available for your operating system.
  • If the check box next to .NET Framework 4.x.x is not enabled, enable it by clicking the box. Click OK to close the Windows Feature window and reboot the computer.
  • If .Net Framework 4.x.x is already enabled, you can repair .Net Framework by clearing the box and rebooting the computer. After the computer has restarted, re-enable .Net Framework and restart the computer again.

Turn off the antivirus

Another factor that can cause this problem is your antivirus software. To check if this is the culprit you should try to disable it.

Avast

  • Locate the Avast icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click on it.
  • Click on Avast shields control in the resulting context menu.
  • Locate the options to disable the program – you should find options to disable it for 10 minutes, an hour, until the computer is restarted or permanently (until you yourself turn it back on). Select whatever option suits you best and use it to disable the program.

AVG

  • Look for the AVG icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click on it.
  • Click on Temporarily disable AVG protection.
  • Choose how long you want AVG to be turned off and whether you want AVG to disable its Firewall too.
  • Click on OK to disable the antivirus program.

Avira

  • Look for the Avira icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click on it.
  • Uncheck the AntiVir Guard enable option in the resulting context menu to turn Avira Antivirus and its protection features off.

BitDefender

  • Look for the BitDefender icon in your computer’s system tray and double-click on it.
  • Click on >> Virus Shield.
  • Uncheck the checkbox beside the Virus Shield is enabled option, consequently changing it to Virus Shield is disabled and successfully disabling the antivirus program until you manually turn it back on again.

McAfee

  • Look for the McAfee Antivirus icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click on it.
  • Click on Exit in the resulting context menu.
  • You should see a dialog box warning you that McAfee‘s protection will be turned off should you choose to go through with your decision. Click on Yes in this dialog box to disable the antivirus program.

Windows Security

  • Select Start  > Settings > Update & Security  > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage settings
  • Switch Real-time protection to Off. Note that scheduled scans will continue to run. However, files that are downloaded or installed will not be scanned.

Check if the Origin error code 9:0 issue still occurs. In case it doesn’t then you can try to use a different antivirus software or add Origin in the exclusion list.

Reinstall Origin

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should consider reinstalling Origin.

To uninstall Origin

  • Log in using an administrator account on the computer.
  • There is no need to backup your games as this process will keep them intact.
  • Click the Start button then click on the gear icon in order to open settings.
  • Click on Apps to open a list of all installed programs on your PC.
  • Locate the Origin entry on the list and click on it once. Click on the Uninstall button above the list and confirm any dialog boxes which may appear. Follow the instructions on-screen in order to uninstall Origin and restart your computer afterwards.
  • Go to the following location on your computer: C:\ProgramData\Origin
  • Delete the Origin folder in the Roaming folder.
