Update your audio driver to fix headphones not recognized

Another possible reason why this problem occurs is because your computer is not using the correct audio driver. Try to let Windows search for the updated driver.

  • Right click on Start.
  • Click on Device Manager.
  • Click on the forward arrow before the Sound, video and game controllers option to expand it.
  • Right click on the audio component then click on update driver.
  • Choose search automatically for updated driver software. Windows will search your computer and the internet for the latest drivers and install it.

Restart your computer if a new update is installed.

In case no update is found then you can visit the motherboard manufacturer website and download the latest audio drivers. If you are experiencing this problem on your laptop then you should visit your laptop model web page support section and download the audio driver from there.

Uninstall your current audio driver ( you can do this from the device manager) before manually installing the downloaded driver. Make sure to restart your computer once you are done.

Hardware troubleshooting

There’s a possibility that the problem is caused by a defective headphone. To check if this is the case you should try using a different pair of headphones. You should also make sure that the audio port of the computer is free from any dirt or debris before connecting your headphones to it.
