Although this is a useful software there are times when you will want to block someone on Slack messaging. Right now there is no official way to block someone on Slack using the platform. The official communication of the company regarding this matter which they posted on their Twitter account is “Not at the moment, but as we continue to host different sizes and kinds of teams, this may be something we’ll add.”

There are however other ways that you can minimize the notifications that you are getting from Slack and this can be done with the steps listed below.

Leave a channel 

  • Click the  gear icon.
  • Select Leave #channel-name.

Mute a channel

  • Click the  gear icon.
  • Select Mute #channel-name.

Archive a channel

  • Click the  gear icon.
  • Select Additional Options… .
  • Click Archive this channel.
  • Select Yes, archive the channel to confirm.

Do Not Disturb

  • Click the bell icon next to your name.
  • Select your desired time.

Tailor your sidebar

  • From your desktop, click your workspace name in the top left.
  • Select Preferences from the menu.
  • Choose Sidebar.
  • Under Sidebar Settings, select the option that works for you.
