Discord is one of the free VoIP applications available that’s popular among the gaming community. On a Windows PC, you can use the web app or dedicated app to do voice chats or send text messages to your video game teammates thus creating a lively game community. While this is quite a stable platform there are some issues that you might experience with it. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Discord not updating issue.
How To Fix Discord Not Updating Issue
Before doing the recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular problem it’s best to refresh the windows 10 operating system by restarting your computer. Surprisingly, this simple step can fix most of the issues that you might encounter with your computer.
Reinstall Discord
One of the main reasons why you will encounter the Discord not updating issue is because of a bug in the update or installer. Take note that this only affects the Windows app version and not the web version. To fix this you will have to reinstall Discord.
- Download the Discord app from this link
- Double click to run the Discord installer and follow on-screen instructions.
There is no need to uninstall the previous version.
Check if the Discord not updating issue still occurs.
Do a clean install of Discord
If the above steps fails to work then you will need to do a clean install of discord. This means that you will have to manually delete the discord files from your computer then install it again.
- Make sure to Exit Out of Discord. You can access the task manager and terminate the Discord process from there.
- Hold Windows key and press R
- Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter
- Locate and select Discord from the list of installed applications
- Click Uninstall and follow the on-screen instructions
- Hold Windows key and press R
- Type %appdata% and press Enter
- Locate and right click the Discord folder. Select Delete and confirm any additional prompts
- Press backspace once
- Locate and double click Local folder
- Locate and right click the Discord folder. Select Delete and confirm any additional prompts
- Download the Discord app from this link
- Double click to run the Discord installer and follow on-screen instructions.
Check if the Discord not updating issue still occurs.
Run Discord as an Administrator
Try to run the app as an administrator as this will give it elevated privileges.
- Close the Discord App
- Reboot
- If the Discord app start automatically then Close it.
- Locate the Discord shortcut on the Desktop. Right click the icon and select Run as administrator
When the app starts you should be able to update it without any problems.
