It also has a software that allows you to play games with settings optimized for your current computer. Although the company makes solid products there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the GeForce Experience game cannot be optimized issue.

Before performing the recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular problem I suggest that you try restarting your computer first. This will refresh the operating system as well as remove corrupt temporary data and is quite effective in fixing most software related issues.

There are several reasons why this problem will occur ranging from corrupted files to corrupted drivers. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix this problem.

Delete User Configuration Files

These files are created by Geforce Experience and serves as its reference for user settings. In case these files have been corrupted then it’s likely that this issue can occur. You should try deleting these files from your computer. Don’t worry as a fresh one will be made once the software has detected these missing files.

  • Press Windows + R, type “taskmgr” and press Enter
  • In the task manager, look for all GeForce experience tasks and end them. Make sure that the application is not running before proceeding further.
  • Press Windows + R to launch the Run application
  • Type “%appdata%” in the dialogue box and press Enter.
  • Press AppData present at the address box present near the top of the screen to be navigated to the previous page. Then open the folder “Local”.
  • Open the folder named “NVIDIA Corporation”.
  • Navigate  to the “GeForce Experience” and delete the “CefCache” folder permanently.
  • Restart your computer.

Reinstall the Geforce Experience

In case the problem is caused by a corrupted software then you will need to uninstall then reinstall the GeForce Experience.

  • Press Windows + R, type “appwiz.cpl” in the dialogue box and press Enter.
  • Once in Programs and Features window, navigate through all the applications until you find GeForce Experience. Right-click it and select “uninstall”.
  • After the uninstallation, download the latest version from Nvidia’s official website and install it .
  • Restart your computer

Turn off the antivirus

There’s a possibility that the antivirus software of your computer is affecting the way GeForce Experience works . To check if this is what’s causing the problem you should try to temporarily disable the antivirus software.

If you are using Windows Security

  • Select Start Settings > Update & Security  – Windows SecurityVirus & threat protection > Manage settings
  • Switch Real-time protection to Off.  

If you are using Avast

  • Search for the Avast icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click on it.
  • Click on Avast shields control.
  • Locate the options to disable the program – the options are to disable it for 10 minutes, an hour, until the computer is restarted or permanently (until you yourself turn it back on). Select whatever option suits you best and use it to disable the program.

If you are using AVG

  • Search for the AVG icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click on it.
  • Click on Temporarily disable AVG protection.
  • Choose how long you want AVG to be turned off and whether you want AVG to disable its Firewall too.
  • Click on OK to disable the antivirus program.

If you are using McAfee

  • Search for the McAfee Antivirus icon in your computer’s system tray and right-click on it.
  • Click on Exit.
  • You should see a dialog box warning you that McAfee‘s protection will be turned off. Click on Yes in this dialog box to disable the antivirus program

Turn off Windows Firewall Temporarily

There’s a possibility that the firewall is causing this problem. To eliminate this possibility you should try to disable the firewall temporarily.

  • Press Windows Key + I to open up Settings.
  • Search for “Windows Defender Firewall” and then select “Windows Defender Firewall”.
  • On the left-hand side, click on “Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off”.
  • Check the “Turn off Windows Defender Firewall” boxes under both the settings.

  • Open Nvidia GeForce Experience application. Navigate to “Preferences” tab and click on “Games” present at the left side of the window.
  • Enable the checkbox named “Recommend optimal settings”.
  • Restart your computer

Uninstall then reinstall the graphics driver

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should install a fresh  version of your graphics driver.

  • Press Win+R (Windows logo key and R key) at the same time to invoke the Run box.
  • Type msconfig and click OK. Then the System Configurations will open.
  • When System Configuration opens, click the Boot tab. Under Boot options, check Safe boot then click OK.
  • When you’re prompted to restart your computer to apply these changes, click Restart then you will boot into Safe Mode.
  • Go to your local hard disk by clicking on This PC then Local Disk C. You should be able to see the NVIDIA folder right there. Right-click on it and choose Delete.
  • Click Start and type Run. Select Run, the Run dialog box will appear.
  • Type “devmgmt.msc” in the run box and click the OK button which should open the Device Manager Window.
  • Expand the “Display Adapters” field. This will list all network adapters that the machine has installed. Right click on the Nvidia adapter you want to uninstall and select “Uninstall”.
  • Click “OK” when prompted to uninstall the device. This will remove the adapter from the list and uninstall the driver.
  • Press Win+R (Windows logo key and R key) at the same time to invoke the Run box.
  • Type msconfig and click OK. Then the System Configurations will open.
  • When System Configuration opens, click the Boot tab. Under Boot options, uncheck Safe boot then click OK.
  • When you’re prompted to restart your computer to apply these changes, click Restart.
  • Download the latest NVIDIA driver for your computer from here https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx.
  • Run the setup file and follow the instructions which appear on screen. Choose the Custom installation option and check all the boxes in the custom install options windows. Also check the box which states “perform clean install”.
  • Restart your computer
