Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below its best to restart your computer first. This will refresh the operating system and remove any corrupted temporary data that could be causing the problem.

There are several factors that can cause this particular problem. The Origin client might be running in the background, which can be checked from the task manager, but can’t be seen on the screen. It’s also possible that this can be caused by a corrupted client. Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix the problem.

Update the Origin client

There are times when the problem can be caused because the Origin client has not finished updating yet. To fix this you will need to make sure that the update process has been completed.

  • Open the task manager by right clicking on the task-bar and then selecting the task manager
  • Search for the Origin application.
  • Check if it is taking  internet bandwidth in the network column. If it is taking bandwidth then the client is updating and will need some time to finish the update, once it has finished, you will be able to run the client again.

Delete Origin cache files

The Origin client will store the most frequently used data in order for it to load much faster. When this data accumulates there is a chance that it can become corrupted thus leading to this problem. What you should do right now to fix this problem is to try to remove this cached data. 

  • Close the origin client if it is running, using the Task manager window.
  • On the keyboard, press the Windows + R key
  • Type “%ProgramData%” into the dialog box and press Enter.
  • In the ProgramData folder open the Origin folder.
  • In the Origin folder delete all the files and folders except the LocalContent folder.

Delete Origin temporary files

The Origin client usually stores temporary files in the AppData folder. When one of these files gets corrupted it can cause this particular problem. To eliminate the possibility that this is the culprit, you will have to delete the temporary files.

  • In the search box type “folder”
  • Select Show hidden files and folders from the results.
  • Under Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders and drives, then select OK.
  • Press Windows + R keys and type “%AppData%” and press Enter.
  • Once the AppData folder opens up, delete the Origin folders located in both the Local and the Roaming folder.
  • Restart Origin

Reinstall the Origin client

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to reinstall the Origin client. This won’t delete the games that you have already installed using the client.

  • Press Windows + R keys
  • Type “control panel” and then press Enter to open.
  • Click on Programs and Features
  • Search for the Origin app and right click on it then click on uninstall.
  • Download the Origin installer from the official website.
  • Run the installer.
