Ryzen 7 2700x vs 3700x – Features

As we have mentioned above, both the Ryzen 7 3700x and its Ryzen 7 2700x counterpart share similar features while they also have some features apart.

Ryzen 7 3700x is the latest and is touted as the world’s most advanced processor in the desktop PC industry. It comes with an advanced socket AM4 platform, which offers support for PCIe on X570 motherboards. With a 4.4GHz maximum boost, the processor is already unlocked for overclocking 36MB of game cache.

This CPU has 16 processing threads and 8 cores, which are bundled with the color controller LED support and AMD Wraith Prism cooler. Additionally, the processor can offer highly efficient and speedy 100+FPS performance when playing some of the high-end games. It allows gaming enthusiasts to take advantage of the best gaming strategies when playing the world’s most popular games.

On the other hand, 7 2700x comes with a frequency of 4.3 GHz, which is slightly less than the 4.4 GHz offered by Ryzen 7 3700x. The base clock speed can reach up to 3.7 GHz. Like its Ryzen 7 3700x counterpart, 7 2700x comes with 16 threads with 8 cores which are easily unlocked for overclocking as well.

It supports Windows 10 Windows-like Ryzen 7 3700x. The 7 2700x CPU comes with a combined cache of 20MB, which is far lesser than the 36MB offered by Ryzen 7 3700x.

From their features, it’s obvious that both of them are pretty close n terms of features, but it seems Ryzen 7 3700x provides more MB and clock speeds than its 7 2700x counterparts.

Ryzen 7 2700x vs 3700x – Overclocking

One of the biggest benefits of having a Ryzen processor, especially for the 65 watts SKU is in the area of overclocking. This awesome feature is available for all types of Ryzen chipsets apart from the A320. Both the 7 3700x and 7 2700x processors are specialists when it comes to overclocking. But now that we’ve established that fact, you may still want to know which of the systems is better at this special feature.

We used the 1.35 volts on both the 7 3700x and 7 2700x processors because anything more can easily overload a powerful heatsink and likely damage the CPU. We were able to realize a 4.05 GHz on 7 2700x. On the other hand, 7 3700x gave use 4.1 GHz, which is slightly ahead but not easily noticeable.

One thing we noticed during our overclocking test is the fact that both processors are close to each other when running lightly threaded tasks. But when you push the system a little harder, 7 3700x tends to come out on top. So, you may be considering the 7 3700x processor if you are likely going to run more complex and highly demanding tasks. Otherwise, both CPUs have similar overclocking abilities.

We also tried both systems for their RAM overclocking capabilities. Well, we discovered that 7 3700x scored higher than its 7 2700x counterpart and was 20% better. However, remember that a 20% better overclocking does not necessarily translate to higher performance. That’s why even at this higher overclock from 7 3700x, it doesn’t show that it’s proportionally better than 7 2700x.

Ryzen 7 2700x vs 3700x  – Cooling performance

We also measured the thermal performance of both CPUs. The cooling system is vital for every system. If the CPU does not have a solid cooling system, the CPU could be overwhelmed when the temperature exceeds what it can handle. So, we decided to look at the thermal performance of both systems.

To find out their cooling performance, we used the Prime 95 torture test, which can tell how bad it can get for a system without a strong thermal system. Our findings show that the Ryzen 7 2700x was cooler even when consuming the same level of temperature. We put the cooling performance to test and discovered that Ryzen 7 2700x can require lesser temperature levels to operate at peak capacity compared to 7 3700x.

Ryzen 7 2700x vs 3700x – Benchmark

We also measured the Ryzen 7 2700x vs 3700x using different benchmarks, including Synthetic benchmarks, blender official benchmark, and Cinebench Release benchmark to find out the performance of each CPU.

For the Synthetic Benchmark, especially the Ashes of the Singularity Classic Game, the 7 3700x. was highly potent. It was almost 30% faster than 7 2700x. We are not very sure why this large disparity in performance, but the obvious explanation could be the floating-point of performance or the improved cache 7 3700x has over its 7 2700x counterpart.

In the Blender benchmark, the 7 3700X CPU also beats 7 2700x, with it completing the benchmark with an 86% cores against 7 2700x that manages to finish the benchmark at 72%. On a similar note, we also tested with the Cinebench Release 2.0 benchmark. 7 3700X also outperformed, whether it’s using one of its cores or all cores. It went 20% ahead of 7 2700x for both single and multi-core results.

We also saw more of the same results in the PCMark test where the 7 3700X keeps beating the 7 2700x, even when it’s overclocked.

Overall, we discovered that the performance of 7 3700X over its 7 2700x counterparts was truly impressive in the few benchmarks we ran.

Ryzen 7 2700x vs 3700x – Gaming performance

Gaming performance is the most important measure of performance for enthusiastic gamers. The performance criteria for other aspects may not matter as much as the gaming performance measure. In that case, we decided to put both CPUs to test using some of the most popular games.

We tested the CPUs on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Far Cry 5, Battlefield V, as well as Civilization VI.

With the high-performance level 7 3700X generated against 7 2700x in the previous benchmarks, you would think it will continue this dominance when it comes to gaming performance. Unfortunately, 7 3700X wasn’t able to replicate that superiority against 7 2700x, and it was even struggling against 7 2700x in some areas.

In Assassin’s Creed, 7 3700X was only 1% ahead, which is largely not noticeable even by the most enthusiastic gamer. So, if Assassin’s Creed is your favorite game, you are not going to see any significant difference between two of the CPUs. One thing going wrong for 7 3700X when it comes to gaming is the lack of firmware and software optimization, which makes gaming a bit more painful for the CPU, particularly in FPS performance.

We also tested the gaming performance of both CPUs in the Battlefield V game. The result was also similar. There was a little difference between the 7 3700X and 7 2700x, as the former was 10% better than the latter when we ran the game on low settings.

On high settings, the gap between both of them is a bit wider, with 7 3700X reaching 15% higher FPS than its 7 2700x peer.

Civilization VI is also another popular game, and we couldn’t resist testing Ryzen 7 2700x vs 3700x to see whether there is a wide difference margin between both CPUs.

Again, 7 3700X still managed to beat 7 2700x in the Civilization AI test by completing the test in 87% of the time it took 7 2700x to complete its test.

Considering that in CIV VI, turns take longer to process and there may be dozens of more fractions n the game, the performance of 7 3700X is a very impressive one.

We also carried out tests on Far Cry 5 and discovered that 7 3700X recorded a good performance against 7 2700x even though it doesn’t offer much when it comes to average framerates. But 7 2700x also raised its performance levels and was only behind 7 3700X by 1%.

But in Hitman 2, 7 2700x was able to hold its ground against 7 3700X, with a 2% higher performance level than 7 3700X. Although 2% may be largely unnoticed, any percentage gain is still better than having none. From our various tests, it’s obvious that 7 3700X has better performance credentials, but 7 2700x also comes pretty close in some other benchmarks.

Since the price difference of both CPUs is not too far off, we can conclude that 7 3700X will offer you a better value for money, considering its better features and slightly higher performance levels.
