Surface Laptop 2

The Surface Laptop 2 comes up first on our list, featuring an edge-to-edge 13.5-inch PixelSense display. You get a large screen and unmatched clarity. What seniors will really enjoy is the touchscreen-enabled display, which allows seniors better control over what they’re doing on the PC.

Additionally, seniors will love the battery life this bad boy has — you can get a whole 14.5 hours off of a single charge, leaving you with plenty of time to catch up on your favorite Netflix shows without worrying about power cables.

iPad Pro

The iPad Pro is more than just a tablet. Apple has been hard at work making the iPad Pro, and with iPad OS, Apple has made that possible. That said, seniors can enjoy a large, edge-to-edge display along with the portability of a tablet. Pair this up with a TypeCover keyboard, and you truly do have your own large screen laptop. And one of the cool things about it — Apple has a number of accessibility features built-in to make this more enjoyable for seniors.

iPad OS also has a range of apps that are able to replace your traditional laptop applications. And, you still get access to the iOS App Store, which allows seniors to stay in touch with their favorite mobile games, too.

Surface Book 2

The Surface Book 2 comes in at 15-inches with a PixelSense display, which provides excellent screen clarity. Pair those two elements together, and seniors will easily be able to use this laptop for just about anything — reading, emails, watching movies, TV shows, and so much more.

It has lightweight keys that are easy to type with, and even comes with a large battery that allows this laptop to last around 17 to 18 hours on a single charge. It might be a little overkill in the hardware department for a senior, but it will provide them with the screen clarity that they need.

MacBook Air

The new MacBook Air would be an excellent choice for seniors. It’s only a 13-inch display, but now that bezels are thinner than ever, you get a ton of screen real estate. The Retina panel provides you with a ton of screen clarity as well, which makes the display easier on the eyes, especially when reading or watching video.

This one can last a really long time on battery as well, which makes it fairly nice for on-the-go use, if needed.

ASUS VivoBook Pro

Even though the ASUS VivoBook Pro is a proper 17.3-inch laptop with a full-sized keyboard and powerful hardware, it doesn’t feel nearly as bulky and heavy as most 17-inch laptops do. That’s because it’s only 0.8 inches thick and weighs just 4.6 pounds, making it one of the most portable laptops in the 17-inch category.

Because ASUS was smart when speccing the laptop, the ASUS VivoBook Pro offers fantastic performance for the price. It has an Intel Core i7-8550U processor, 16 GB of memory, over 1 TB of storage space, and a capable graphics card from Nvidia for playing games and enjoying high-definition content. The laptop also has a Full HD panel with WideView technology and a long-lasting lithium polymer battery with fast charging.

The ASUS VivoBook Pro can be a full-fledged desktop replacement thanks to its extensive connectivity options, which include USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, HDMI, LAN, and SD card ports. And with the laptop’s dual-coil, front-mounted stereo speakers, you can enjoy favorite movies or TV shows anywhere and anytime.

HP Envy 17-u110nr

Like so many other laptops from HP, the Envy 17-u110nr may not amaze with its design, but it’s guaranteed to amaze with its reliability, durability, and value. It’s one of only a few traditional 17-inch laptops with a Full HD IPS touch-enabled display. The extra input method adds a whole new dimension of interactivity with the laptop, allowing you to send handwritten notes, comfortably navigate the web with your whole hand instead of just your wrist, and play games optimized for mobile devices where touch is the only available input method.

The HP Envy 17-u110nr has an Intel Core i7-7500U processor, 12 GB of memory, a 1 TB hard drive, and a dedicated graphics card from Nvidia. The laptop’s large battery can power it for nearly 8 hours, and the dual speakers supplied by Bang & Olufsen deliver an uncompromised audio experience.

Some of the most noteworthy additional features of the HP Envy 17-u110nr include its built-in DVD-writer, webcam, backlit keyboard with a 10-key numpad, and media card reader. If you want a laptop you can depend on and that can handle anything you throw at it, the HP Envy 17-u110nr is a safe bet.

Dell Inspiron 17 7000 2-in-1

Large convertible laptops combine the utility of traditional 17-inch laptops with the convenience of multimedia-oriented tablets, and the Dell Inspiron 17 7000 2-in-1 is our favorite large convertible laptop for 2018. When you need to get some work done, you can use it in laptop mode and type with ease on its large, backlit keyboard with a dedicated numpad. And when you’re done with work, and it’s time to relax, you can flip the 17.3-inch Full HD touch-enabled display around and use the Dell Inspiron 17 7000 2-in-1 just like you would a normal tablet.

Of course, because the Dell Inspiron 17 7000 2-in-1 isn’t a tablet but a powerful convertible laptop, it has sufficient performance to run even the most demanding desktop software, thanks to an Intel Core i7-7500U processor clocked at 2.7 GHz. And because it features a dedicated graphics card with 2 GB of video memory from Nvidia, light gaming is easily possible.

Dell ships the Inspiron 17 7000 2-in-1 with a 512 GB SSD, which means that you won’t have to decide whether you would rather have speed or plenty of storage space—you can have both.

Apple MacBook Pro

Think what you want about the direction Apple is going with its latest MacBooks, but this 17-inch MacBook Pro exemplifies everything that has made Apple so famous and successful over the years. Its aluminum unibody chassis is precision-milled to perfection, and no connectivity options have been sacrificed in the name of portability.

In fact, the 17-inch MacBook Pro even has a slot-loading SuperDrive with double-layer DVD support, in addition to Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, a Firewire port, three USB 2.0 ports, optical digital/analog audio in/out, a Mini DisplayPort that supports an external display at 2560×1600, and an ExpressCard slot. They just don’t make MacBooks like this anymore. The only thing it lacks is an SD card reader, but that can be easily fixed because there are so many USB ports to plug an SD card reader into.

The laptop’s 17-inch LED-backlit display has 1920×1200 pixels, which makes it less suited for multimedia and more suited for web browsing and productivity. Its Intel Core i7 processor isn’t afraid even of the heaviest loads, and the included 1 TB SSHD (Solid State Hybrid) Hard Drive is a satisfactory compromise between speed and performance.

Acer Chromebook 15 CB5-571-C09S

If you want an inexpensive laptop with a large screen, the Acer Chromebook 15 CB5-571-C09S is as good as it gets. Just be aware that this isn’t a Windows laptop but a Chromebook, which means that it runs Google’s Chrome OS, a lightweight operating system based on Linux and the Chrome web browser.

Because Chrome OS has been created with the web in mind, some heavy-duty applications, such as Photoshop or AutoCAD, aren’t supported. What is supported, however, is Play Store and almost 3 million Android apps that are currently available through it. Apart from Android apps, the Acer Chromebook 15 CB5-571-C09S can also run apps from Chrome Web Store, which include the popular open source video player VLC, the powerful photo editor Polarr, Microsoft’s office suite of applications, and many others.

The Acer Chromebook 15 CB5-571-C09S has an energy-efficient Intel Celeron Dual-Core 3205U 1.5 GHz processor, 4 GB of memory, 15.6-Inch Full HD IPS screen, 9-hour battery life, and 32 GB of storage space. If you ever need more storage space, you can either store your files in the cloud with free Google Drive storage or use an SD card for storage space expansion.

Verdict

As you can see, there are some excellent large-screen laptops here for seniors, but you don’t always need a massive 17-inch laptop to easily read text or watch movies. A 13.5-inch or 15-inch can do really well today, because most of them are bezel-less, and come with such a high resolution that the screen is very clear. A Surface Book 2, MacBook Pro, or Surface Laptop 2 are all excellent choices for that,
