Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below it’s best to restart your computer first. This action refreshes the operating system and remove any corrupt temporary data that could be causing the problem.
There are several factors that can cause this particular problem ranging from a setting issue to a software glitch. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix this issue.
Check the microphone in Windows settings
The first thing you will need to do in this case is to make sure that the microphone is not disabled in the Windows settings.
- Press Win + I to open the Settings.
- Select the Privacy option.
- Click the Microphone tab present at the left side of the screen.
- Now turn on the microphone in the right section. You could also enable or disable apps to use the mic.
- Save changes and exit.

Check the microphone in Sound settings
Make sure that the microphone is set as the default hardware for voice input.
- Type Control Panel on the search bar then click on the option that appears.
- Click on Sound
- Choose the Recording tab and find the Microphone on the recording devices list. (If you fail to find it, right click on the list and select Show Disable Devices. Then right-click the Microphone and select Enable.)
- Select the Microphone and click the button Set Default preset at the bottom of the screen.
- Select the Enhancements tab in the same window and check the line which says “Disable all sound effects”.
- Click OK to save all changes and exit.
- Restart your computer.
