Google Chrome is currently the most popular browser that’s being used all over the world. It’s minimalist design paired with its fast operation are some of its advantages when compared to other browsers. While this browser has a great download manager there are times when you will want to limit its download speed. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will show you how to limit download speed of Chrome.

How to manage download speed of Google Chrome

One of the main reasons why you will want to limit the bandwidth that Chrome uses when downloading a file is to make sure that other network activities don’t slow down to a crawl. You can manage the download speed of Chrome from the developers tools, no need for you to install anything.

  • Open Google Chrome
  • Open a new tab
  • Press F12. The web development tool will open.
  • Click on the Network tab.
  • Click on the Customize and Control dev tool option ( the three dots on the right side)
  • Click on Settings.
  • Click on Throttling
  • Click on Add custom profile.
  • Give the profile a name.
  • Set the Download Speed (based on your preference).
  • Set the upload speed (based on your preference).
  • Click on Save.
  • Restart Chrome

Once you have completed the steps listed above you will have now limit download speed of Chrome.

In case you want to revert back to the original setting then all you have to do is to delete the custom profile which you have created.

  • Open Google Chrome

  • Click on Settings.
  • Click on Throttling
  • Click on Add custom profile.
  • Highlight the Profile name
  • Click on the Trash icon
