Camtasia is a popular software that allows you to record your computer screen activity allowing you to create great video tutorials. Although this is a solid performing software there are instances when certain issues can occur. Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below it’s best to restart your computer first. This action refreshes the operating system and remove any corrupt temporary data that could be causing the problem.
There are several factors that can this particular issue ranging from an audio driver issue to a wrong audio settings. Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix this problem.
How to fix Camtasia Does Not Record Audio In Windows 10
Update the audio drivers
The first thing you will need to do in this case is to make sure that your computer is using the latest audio drivers.
- In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, then select it from the results.
- Select the arrow next to Sound, video and game controllers to expand it.
- Right-click the listing for your sound card or audio device, such as headphones or speakers, select Update driver, then select Search automatically for updated driver software. Follow the instructions to complete the update.
In case the issue still persists then you should try to uninstall the audio drivers then let Windows use the generic drivers.
- In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, then select it from the results.
- Select the arrow next to Sound, video and game controllers to expand it.
- Right-click the listing for your sound card or audio device, then select Update driver > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
- Select the audio device whose driver you want to update, select Next, and follow the instructions to install it.
Try to check if the Camtasia not recording sound issue still occurs.
Install the latest Windows updates
It’s best to make sure that you computer is running on the latest software update as this will minimize compatibility issues between the operating system and the installed apps.
- Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.
- If the status says “Updates are available,” select Install now.
- Select the updates you want to install, then select Install.
- Restart your PC
Check if the Camtasia does not record.
Check the recording device
You will need to make sure that your computer is using the correct recording device.
- Right-click (or press and hold) the volume icon on the taskbar and select Sounds
- In the Recording tab, select the microphone or recording device you’d like to set up. Select Configure.
- Select Set up microphone, and follow the steps of the Microphone Setup Wizard.
To test the microphone
- Right-click (or press and hold) the volume icon on the taskbar and select Sounds.
- In the Recording tab, look for green bars rising as you speak into your recording device. If the bars are moving, your device is connected and working properly.
Try to check if you can now record sound using Camtasia.
Close other audio applications
Sometimes the problem can be caused by another application that is using your audio hardware or is causing a conflict with Camtasia. Try closing any other apps running that might be using the microphone then check if the issue still occurs.
Select the microphone in Camtasia
Make sure to select the correct microphone to use in the Camtasia software.
- Open Camtasia
- Go to Tools > Options > Inputs.
- Make sure that your microphone is set as the Audio device in the Audio
- Be sure to adjust the microphone level so that Camtasia can actually pick up your microphone. If you want to record system audio as well, be sure to check Record system audio After doing that, click OK to save changes.
Check if the not recording issue still occurs.
Reinstall Camtasia
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should try to uninstall Camtasia then install a fresh version.
To uninstall
- Close Camtasia.
- Click Start Menu.
- Right-click Camtasia and select Uninstall. A new window will open with a list of installed applications.
- Right-click Camtasia and select Remove.
To install
- Go to https://www.techsmith.com/video-editor.html
- Download camtasia
- Locate camtasia.exe. In most cases, the EXE file is located in the Downloads folder.
- Double-click the camtasia.exe file to begin installing Camtasia.
Try to check if the audio not recording problem still occurs.
