Google Chrome is currently the most popular browser in the world today. A lot of people prefer to use this browser due to its minimalist design and the fast browsing experience it provides. Although this is a solid application there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will show you how to fix Google Chrome not saving passwords issue.
What to do when Chrome does not save your password
Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below it’s best to restart your computer first. This action refreshes the operating system and remove any corrupt temporary data that could be causing the problem.
Update Chrome
The first thing you will need to do in this case is to make sure that you have the latest version of Chrome as this will have several performance improvements as well as bug fixes.
- Open Google Chrome and click the Action button (top right corner).
- Access the Help option and click on About Google Chrome.
- Wait for the initial scan to complete. If a new version is found, the wizard will automatically prepare for installation.
- When prompted to install, do so .
Try to check Chrome can save passwords.
Delete the Chrome cached files
There are instances when corrupted cached data stored in the browser is causing this problem. If this is the culprit then you need to delete these files.
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More.
- Click More tools and then Clear browsing data.
- At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
- Next to “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files,” check the boxes.
- Click Clear data.
Try checking if the Google Chrome not saving passwords issue still occurs.
Allow Chrome to keep local data
Sometimes this problem can be caused by a setting that prevents Chrome from storing data in your computer. Changing this setting could fix this issue.
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More.
- Then, click on Settings.
- Inside the Settings menu, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the screen, then click on the Advanced drop-down menu to make the rest of the settings visible.
- Scroll down to the Privacy & Security tab and click on Site Settings.
- Click on Cookies and site data.
- From the Cookies menu, make sure that the toggle associated with Clear cookies and site data when you quit Chrome is unchecked.
- If you’ve modified the setting, restart your browser to force the changes to take effect.
Try to check if the not saving password problem still occurs.
Enable the setting which offers to save password
There’s a possibility that the problem is caused by the browser not set to save passwords. If this is the culprit then you will need to change this setting.
- Open Google Chrome and click the action button in the top-right corner of the screen. Then, click on Settings from the newly appeared menu.
- Inside the Settings screen, go to the Autofill tab and click on Passwords.
- Inside the Passwords tab, make sure that the toggle associated with Offer to save passwords is checked.
- Restart your browser
Check if Chrome can’t save password issue still occurs.
