Getting the updated is usually quite easy and oftentimes you won’t notice that it is already being installed. Sometimes though, you will experience certain update problems which we will be addressing today. There are several factors that can cause this particular problem ranging from an improper downloading of update files to a corrupted system file. Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix this problem.
Run Windows Update Troubleshooter
The first thing you will need to do in this case is to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter tool. This tool can search your system for any update related issues and try to fix them.
- Download the Windows Update Troubleshooter tool from https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/4027322/windows-update-troubleshooter
- Run the troubleshooter.
- When it’s done, it’s best practice to restart your device.
- Check for new updates. Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update , then select Check for updates and install any available updates.
- If the problems persists then try running the troubleshooter again to check for additional errors.

Delete the SoftwareDistribution Folder
The SoftwareDistribution folder is where Windows stores all of the update files. If the files in this folder are corrupted then this problem can occur. You can try to delete the contents of this folder so that the update files will be redownloaded.
- Type Command Prompt on the search bar.
- Right click on the command prompt app that appears then click on Run as Administrator.
- On the command prompt Window type the following.
- Type net stop wuauserv press Enter.
- Type net stop bits press Enter.
- Type net stop cryptSvc press Enter.
- Type net stop msiserver press Enter.
- Open the Windows Explorer and navigate to the following address: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
- Delete all the files and folders.
- Start the services again by typing the following commands in the elevated command prompt.
- Type net start wuauserv press Enter.
- Type net start bits press Enter.
- Type net start cryptSvc press Enter.
- Type net start msiserver press Enter.
- Restart the computer.

Turn on App Readiness Service
- Press Windows Key + R to open Run.
- Type in ‘services.msc’ and press Enter.
- Locate the App Readiness Service and double-click it to open the Properties.
- Set the Startup type to Automatic and click Start to run the service.
- Click Apply and then hit OK.
- Restart your computer.

Disable Automatic Windows Update
- Open up the Services windows as shown in solution 3.
- Locate the Windows Update service and double-click it.
- Set the Startup type to Disabled and click Stop to stop the service if it is running.
- Hit Apply and then click OK.
- Restart your computer.

Perform a system restore
In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should consider doing a system restore.
- In the search box on the taskbar, type Control Panel, and then choose it from the list of results
- In the Control Panel search box, type Recovery.
- Select Recovery > Open System Restore.
- In the Restore system files and setting box, select Next
- Select the restore point that you want to use in the list of results, and then select Scan for affected programs.
- You’ll see a list of items that will be deleted if you remove this restore point. If you’re OK with the deletions, select Close> Next > Finish.
- If you’re not seeing any restore points, it might be because system protection isn’t turned on.
