How To Fix Diagnostics Policy Service Is Not Running Issue

Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below it’s best to restart your computer first. This action refreshes the operating system and remove any corrupt temporary data that could be causing the problem.

There are several factors that can cause this problem ranging from a service that is not running to a corrupted driver. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps you need to do to fix this problem.

Check if the Diagnostics Policy Service is running

The first thing you will need to do is to make sure that this service is running. 

  • Press Windows + R, type “services.msc” in the dialogue box and press Enter.
  • All the services on your computer will be listed here. Navigate through all of them until you find “Diagnostic Policy Service”. Right-click it and select Properties.
  • Set the startup type as “Automatic” and click the Start Press Apply to save changes and exit. Now try launching the troubleshooter again and see if the error message went away.

Give administrative privileges

There are certain modules in Windows that needs to be given administrative privileges to prevent this issue. These modules are the  “network service” and “local service administrator”.

  • Type “cmd” in the search bar, right-click on the application and select “Run as administrator”.
  • Type net localgroup Administrators /add networkservice then press the enter key.
  • Type net localgroup Administrators /add localservice then press the enter key.
  • Close the command prompt.

Try reinstalling the network adapters

  • Type “devmgmt.msc” in the search bar and press Enter.
  • Expand the category “Network adapters”, right-click on the adapter which is giving you problems and click on “Uninstall device”.
  • Once the device is uninstalled, right-click on any empty space in the device manager and select “Scan for hardware changes”.
  • The network adapter will automatically be installed. Check if you are accessing the internet properly.

Do system restore

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then I suggest that you do a system restore. Take note that this will only work if you have previously setup the system restore feature. 

  • Search for System Restore using the Search bar next to the Start menu and click on Create a restore point. Inside the System Properties window, click on System Restore.
  • Select the option called Choose a different restore point and click the Next button.
  • Select a particular restore point you saved before manually. You can also select any restore point available in the list and hit the Next button to initialize the restoration process. After the process is done, you will be reverted to the state your computer was in at that period in time.
